Powers are special abilities you gain through use of power-points. A few examples of powers you can have

Good Healing, Summon elves, Summon Rohirrim, Summon Eagle allies as well as hero abilities for Gandalf and Aragorn

Evil Summon Balrog, increase resource gather speed, summon orcs, darken sky (leadership bonus),

and some factions can summon heros like: dragon, giant frostwolf.
