Frodo Baggins was a hobbit, born and raised  in the Shire. He was the nephew of the famed Bilbo Baggins, and they shared the same birthday.

Upon Bilbo's 111st birthday, Bilbo gave the One Ring, which he found sixty years prior, to Frodo before departing for Imladris to live with the elves. Frodo had the ring for seventeen years before Gandalf convinced him to take the Ring to Mordor, where it was to be destroyed. The hobbit, along with Sam, Merry, Pippin, and Aragorn, who they met in Bree, traveled to Imladris themselves after Frodo and company were attacked on Weathertop. There, the Fellowship of the Ring was formed. They fought at Moria and Amon Hen, losing Gandalf and Boromir to foes, when the Fellowship disbanded. Frodo and Same then journeyed alone to Mordor, where Frodo after many weeks cast the Ring, along with his unwilling guide, Gollum, into the fires of Mount Doom, ending the rule of Sauron and the War of the Ring.
